I'm thinking about bringing my weekly static group from DDO over to try out Conan Unchained on the Saga of Zath server.
How quickly can we start grouping?

You can group from about level five.
You need to stay solo whilst doing the "destiny" quest line in this game. To start with this is the initial area of the game where your character starts until you have quested through to a gate which transfers you to the multi-player "day-time" zone of Tortage ... the starting city.... generally this is from level 1 to 5.
After that you can group up for all the daytime zone quests. And after you leave Tortage, the game has a normal 24 hour clock and you can group for most of the quests and zones except particular solo instances which are optional.
The destiny quest line has the largest number of quests in Tortage, but you can wait until higher levels to quickly go through them solo. After tortage, the destiny quest line pops up when you hit particular levels and again you can chose to wait to do those later ... If you are doing with a group of friends and you have a way to communicate outside of the game (eg discord, teamspeak etc) then you could always make these forced solo areas into a social event such as a race to see who finishes it first ... and in Tortage each archetype (soldier, rogue, priest, mage) has slightly different destiny quests.
The reason you stay solo for all the destiny quest is that some of the quest items you need will not drop appropriately if you are in a group ... eg the key you need to get from x will not be in the bag x drops when you kill him ... that type of thing ....

This Lvl 1-5 until you reach the gate to Tortage City is usually referd to as "the beach", and from creating your character until the gate you will need 10-40 minutes. Depending on you knowlegde of the game and playing speed. One large area with a lot of mobs in it is actually optional, although I would recommend to not skip it, but instead to kill everything you find to kill. That way you should be way into level 5 or even level 6 when you enter Tortage.
Thanks for the info. There are a lot of new subsystems that have been added since I solo-played for a short time back in 2008... a lot to figure out and learn... But we had a blast.
The solo quests are disruptive to our normal grouping dynamic and make it a little complicated to keep everyone at the same progression. Not sure if/when issues with level differences kick in...
I wouldn't worry too much about that if I were you. The solo quests aren't that many, there's a bunch in tortage, and like 4 or 5 destiny quests in the rest of the game. There are some solo instances too but they're very few and you can just skip them. It's always faster to level up as a group anyways.

The solo quests ("Destiny Quest" will lead you to raid quests all the way through T1,2,3,4 - but they are optional. You can go back to them even at lvl 80 if you wish to. The xp, some gearwise helpfull quest rewards and some minor buffs at lvl 30, 50 and 80 are the reasons to make the quests during leveling. (Btw, if anyone asks you to choose a buff, always choose more damage, not health or health regenaration.)
