Default Returned after 7 years. Just one question.

Just returned a few days ago, first spending some time sorting out the ui and getting the keys to actually save...

This post helped if you're wondering

    My question

I was looking through the spellbook and I seem to remember attacks like enraging strikes saying that they lock the enemy into combat with you. Now it has no mention of agro. If they got rid of this, is there even any point in using these spells at later level?

    Thanks

    Also my Guardian

Since I haven't played in so long and I love lvling I started a new Guardian so I can experience the game from the start.

I thought returning the game the graphics would look awful and outdated but they're not bad. I use sweetfx to sharpen that adds more detail, then some SMAA and a tad vibrancy.

Yup, get rid of the blur/fog with sweetFX and the game looks beautiful. In fact I don't think I've seen a better looking realistic MMO yet. And we've got top notch animations on top of that

Whats the fog setting in the SweetFX_settings I don't think I have that activated..

I mean just enabling hdr in sweetfx seems to remove a lot of the white fog/filter otherwise present pretty much everywhere in the game.

I spent awhile playing with the HDR settings and couldn't see any improvement to the graphics but of course it's down to preference.

The HDR radius setting increases the intensity of the lighting (moon and sun only I think) I think at around 0.77 it was similar brightness to having HDR off. While at 0.87 it was more intense making it too bright to the point you can't see any detail on the moon and it can bleed through mountains like on the character load screen.

The HDR power options just makes the game lighter or darker, more saturated?

I'll show some comparisons though these are against the game at default that has no AA or sharpness.

This is with HDR power at 1.0 and intensity 87

Ignoring the AA and sharpness, the only real difference is the increases lighting radius with the HDR.

Now here's default game vs the HDR on but at power 1.3 as you can see it makes things darker and saturated yet its bright because of the increase HDR radius

I don't think HDR removes fog at all

If you play the game without it and find an area that is foggy as you mentioned, play around with the gamma and saturation you will see it become either more or less visible. The HDR setting is just effecting that.

This is completely off topic but oh well...

Perhaps you're right, I could get the same result by playing with various settings. But for me it's easier to just enable hdr, I know it does what I like.

See how the "white filter" goes away with hdr on ? Perhaps it's just my perception, or/and my screen. But I definitely like it more with hdr on.

As far as I remember the "blur" in Age of Conan comes from the Anti-Aliasing setting FXAA HQ.
HDR is a setting that is used for better lighting. I think the white "mist" on redpooo's pictures goes away because the whole image get's a different light setting which reduces this "mist" or "fog".

SweetFX and ENB use some different way of Anti-Aliasing technic which does not blur the image that much but it costs some FPS.

The fog is decreased redpoo but the the game is darker. You can do the same just by reducing the gamma.

Vanilla game but with the gamma turned down.. notice the decrease in fog?

Gone waaay off topic, hope mods don't mind.
