Thread: AoC no longer starting (Windows 10)

    Default AoC no longer starting (Windows 10)

    Ever since I updated to Windows 10, I am experiencing the following issue with AoC:

    I can launch the patcher (which appears to work just fine), but immediately after I hit Launch I get the following error message:

    "Cannot find C:\Spill\Age of Conan\AgeOfConanDX10.exe ... "; when closing this error message, I also sometimes get an error message about the missing LocalConfig.xml (error code 150). I have tried various fixes from the forums for the LocalConfig issue, but this does not change the fact that the game does not launch. I have also tried running the game directly from the game directory (both DirectX10 and 9 version), with the same error message.

    After contacting Support, I got the reply that I should download DirectX 9 again, which I did - nothing changed.

    Finally, I did a complete reinstall of AoC, to a different directory and harddisk, but the issue is still the same.

    At this point, I am at my wits end... what else can I try?

    Btw, I experience issues ONLY with Aoc - all other games and applications so far appear to be running fine.

    Just tried that - still getting the same error message about not being able to find AgeOfConanDX10.exe, this time with the second one about the missing LocalConfig.xml, too

    Can you post a screenshot of the error? and copy the contents of your localconfig in here if you can

    Did that - the Patcher created a new file, but the problem's still the same.

    When you went to Windows 10.. Did the launcher attempt to download any DX files?

    You could try the dxwebsetup in the aoc folder.

    It can be a problem with AoC Quickstart. You can try launching it and disabling it. If you do not have it, you may need to run Regedit to remove the traces of it.
    • Remove daily rewards and the raid finder;
    • remove membership bonuses;
    • disable PVE XP for daily challenges;
    • remove WBs forever on Crom;
    • slow down the AA gain;
    • lower the PVP XP gain or remove the streak system;
    • remove AoE looting;
    • add the missing mobs back to Khesh., F. of the Dead, and Eigl. Mount.;
    • fix the 250+ms ping;
    • take the key away from Saddur;
    • revert T3, T3.5 (10.21.15), T4 (10.21.15), and GGG changes;
    • remove energy and add skills (like taunt) back.

    Sounds like an ownership issue. Right click on the Age of Conan folder, click Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> Select your user account, put a checkmark in the "replace owner on subcontainer and objects" and click ok a few times, see if that helps.

    The other thing I can think of is if you have recently installed antivirus software, and the exe is flagged as unsafe, I've seen sometimes especially Trend Micro will lock files that an installer or some software is using, and you'll get this message about missing files. Try to deactivate antivirus if you have that and try again. Or move the game to an external drive if you got one, and try launching from that one.

    Otherwise, try this to make sure your system files are fine, and disk health is good.

    Also, the old but good friend of checkdisk..

    Elevated command prompt and type: chkdsk /R /F
