Thread: renown caps

    Unhappy renown caps

I was wondering why the caps on renown and why they can't be reset for higher lever guilds.

This has been broken for well over a year now.

Funcom either can't fix it or don't care to fix it.

In fact, they care and it's on the list. You can see Nusquam talking about it here and here.

Yes, one post is from july, where they wanted to look again after the holidays. The next post is from october, saying similar things, only that the customers should clarify the bug more:

    So:
    - some guilds can not gain renown.
    - the message given (guilds with keep, renown lower than 20 and greater than 1) is always like: you gained ____ xp (rankings only). THese "xp" are not counted for advancing in renown level.

My friends have sent countless reports and petitions. Some guilds got it fixed manually, some not. Though fixed is not the right word, they manually gave a fixed amount of renown or removed the cap.

    What people suspect:
    - it is linked to the merge and database
    - it could be linked to how renown for guilds is calculated. When introduced there was a maximum number of players that could contribute and a cap of a maximum amount gained per week.
    - the weekly gained renown (as under guild tabs) is usually shown in the millions and "capped"
    - individual guildmembers can have the weekly renown gained set to 0 and it can increase as number as seen in the green guild online window, but the total renown is not touched and not rising

The gd probably refers to the issue as fixed, because a few months back they reintroduced the calculations of the rankings. But renown gain was and is always bugged for over a year now. And i know from my own petitions: There was NOTHING to be misunderstood about the kind of bug, the suggestions made to fix or workaround and if it was fixed or not.

I suspect the MODs don't play the game all to often; or they would be well versed in this problem. As posted above ~ it's not rocket science man.

    Lightbulb Friendly Suggestion :D

Just a friendly suggestion, why not remove the cap for all until a fix is ready?
This way the guilds who have experienced a loss can catch up, people will have one thing less to complain about and the coders will have incentive to create a fix to stop all that extra renown from being earned by guilds.
All kidding aside, is it easier to remove the cap than fix it?

The last posts from Funcom about guild renown not resetting as it is meant to for individuals and/or guilds were back in July 2014 and then in October 2014.

I would like to get an update on this issue from Funcom please ..... is it currently being worked on?

the July 2014 post said that a coder would be assigned to it after they got back from holidays, but a timeframe could not be confirmed. That thread was then closed so it could not be "bumped" to ask if it had been assigned. I may have missed it, but since then I have seen no posts confirming that it is actually worked on, as the October 2014 post did not confirm that it had been assigned but a comment in response to a post in that thread.

It is a matter of concern to those guilds which have not reached rank 20 renown...will our playtime gaining renown for our guilds all be for nothing if we cap.... I am in a guild that is still pre-lvl20, and whilst it has not reached a "guild cap" on anything, I do have to drop guild periodically to reset renown on characters who have reached the individual 2milllion cap and get them re-invited to guild...usually 48 hours later....

It is a matter of concern and annoyance for guilds that have reached a cap and can not gain further renown to progress their guild renown rank....

It is a matter of annoyance for guilds who's ranking each week in the server-wide rankings list do not reflect their activities because the individuals and/or guild have reached the cap and the renown does not reset appropriately each week. There are guilds listed on the weekly "guild renown rankings" list that have not been active for a couple of years, whilst other guilds that I know are very active do not make the list....for example most of the guilds who were on the EU Crom server before the EU+US server merge.

I am also bumping this thread to remind FC that we care about the renown and that it is not working properly STILL ...after more than a year.... because the latest newletter said the crafting revamp is still be worked on with a view to it being released this year....so there will be alot of artistry earned by players interested and trying out the new system when it is released live - there will ALSO be a great deal of anger if the artistry earned does not contribute to renown levelling and is not properly reflected in the guild renown rankings as boasting rights for the guilds...

Absolutely agreed. I looked the other day and could not remember the last time I had even seen some of the guilds in the top ranked spots - while there were others I had been with on and off in events and such that were not even ranked. This should be fixed.

Just yesterday I had some new player try to recruit me so they could have the necessary '24' members to start their own guild city. Start your own guild city? I thought he was crazy - but hey, if that's what someone wants, then more power to them. I want to see Funcom supporting that sort of thing - and fixing renown is a big part of that.
I'll show you roads overgrown and paved with promises long since forgotten, but what you take away will be as much about you as it is me. https://hjbuell.com/about-me/

    Just spoke with Nusquam,

It is still on their top 10 list of things they are working on, and they DO care about this. Unfortunately, it is a complex issue that takes time to untangle.
