Thread: Stealth Question

    Question Stealth Question

Just started an assassin and am finding it very hard to remain hidden. Found this in another thread:
Stealth in AoC is a joke. Does not work. Why add more over 800 points for hide, since you only really need 50. Stealth=Broke.

    And

Of course it doesn't work. There is no stealth. It's called hiding. Small details and potentional "omg in real life blabla" aside, you are supposed to work with your lightmeter and stuff.

I put 50 skill points into Stealth already. Also i don't understand the whole "lightmeter" thing-of-a-mybob, could someone please explain it to me? Do I have enough points or am i doing something wrong with the "lightmeter" thingy? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Zfxi

1/ stealh in pvp is very effective

2/ stealth in pve is rather limited and yes, it's effectives is determined by your stealthing skill (50 is very very low, even 800 doesn't guarantee success). With stealth metter (also called stealth gem) being bright you have higher chance of failure, you want it very dark.

Here is an explanation of stealthing and stealthing gem/metter:

(please note that this guide is from 2009 so many thing have changed, stealth gem/metter is the same thou)

Hi Slith, thanks for the info. I found your guides and have been using it ever since. It is what got me into playing an assassin. I been reading into your leveling guide and even printed a hard copy and use it daily. Anyways enough ranting, according to your sneaking guide you noted:
Note: assassin forum members report that there is virtually no difference between 100 sneaking + items boosts and 900 sneaking. Keep that in mind.
Does this still hold true or has this been fixed? I am only interested in playing PvE so the PVP aspect for me doesn't matter. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

As for skill I really cannot tell since I haven't reset my sneaking since .... well, 2008 :P

I have it maxed out and even in such dark solo dungeons as Refuge of Apostate I will still get sometimes poped out of stealth, but usually I will manage to get quite a lot of stealh kills.

But in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTXupE-GVo8 I also had maxed out stealh AND EVERY MOB pops me out stealth. So judging only from that I would say that it as better than used to be.

edit: and on that video my gem is dark (https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...upE-GVo8#t=64s) and still 100% chance to pop. So I guess Funcom did something to fix it.

So if theres a 100% chance to pop, would you reccommend i max it out or stick to putting 100 points in it like you originally stated in the guide? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I wasn't too clear in the post:

That video is from 3 years ago and it shows that back then the MOBs had like 100% chance to pop you out of stealth even with maxed out stealthing.

Nowdays with maxed out stealth I am able to stealth around in solo dungeons and I get to land stealth attack more often than not.

So my verdic is: Funcom kinda fixed it.

My recomendation: do max it out

At 80 everyone can have 3 of their 4 skills (Climbing, Hide, Run Speed, Perception) maxed. Only 600 points is needed for Climbing as at present the Blood Bridge rope in Atzel's Approach is the max climb point in the game. That leaves 2 points left over that will go unneeded for all but rogues who have that extra skill, Skulk, to put points into. Since Perception isn't very useful for PvE, only rogues on PvP servers really have to spread around their skill points.

There are other ladders behind Atzel's castle that needs more Climbing (650 I think). And far as I know there's a single point in whole game where Perception in pve helps a little bit (commander of Last Legion is hiding and you must pop him out or wait till he appears, which is a ridiculously pointless little trivia).
