Blue box can have everything that drops in purple: simple relics, dragon tears, t3 rare, pets (got one tonight from blue box), shards...you just don't get as many as the box has.

On a subscription I get eight shards if I get them.

Oh, and only the blue box gives you 15 silver to 2 gold. Woot.
