    Default Buying a new monitor

    Hi guys im looking to buy a new monitor and have a couple of questions.

    Does the game currently support;

    Ultrawide 21:9 2560x1080

    and/or

    4k

    Many thanks

    I guess you would get the option. But why? You can get a 2560x1440 @144hz for almost the same price.

    https://www.asus.com/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG279Q/

    When that's said, 4K is just too small icons in AoC to be useful. I know ther are a few UI's you can use but none are 100% compatible. I've had a Dell U2715H 2560x1440 for almost two years now and it works brilliant, except some tearing a few times per week.

    That monitor is really good, i might even buy it. Though i did want at least 32" but i might settle for 27"

    Thanks for showing me it.

    And you say it runs age of conan no problem?

    You'd need a graphics card with displayport connector. HDMI or DVI won't support that refresh rate. Also if you would want to use the G-SYNC feature it is reserved for NVidia cards and pretty powerful ones too. I'd say you need a GTX 980 or GTX 1070 and a CPU to match at least high end Haswell or more powerful to take full use of this monitor.

    Personally I feel 1080p offers too little in height for Age of Conan. Chat boxes and the rows on UI eat up all the space. 2560x1440 works great. Bigger monitors like the 32" you suggested, is often intended for other use than gaming. Watch out for refresh rates and response times.

    Here's a screenshot of Stonerune UI at 2560x1440 resolution (linked on my Onedrive since image is 8 megabytes). https://1drv.ms/i/s!AihpvgBwZjybjD9KPhT5sLYKAw8a

    Asus has other monitors to offer as well. Here is the AMD counterpart however it is less attractive due to the performance difference of NVidia and AMD. https://www.asus.com/Monitors/MG278Q/

    DELL has a monitor but it is not IPS so colors will be a bit "washed out" compared to the best IPS panels. http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-...nel-widescreen

    ACER has one too, directly competetive to the PG279Q but I wouldn't have that red stand on my desk if it was for free The Asus is a lot prettier. http://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/UM.HX1AA.001

    A 1060 would do as well, as I run a similar resolution on my pc with no issues.

    It depends on the game

    AoC in 1440p - I found that anything beyond a gtx 970 or gtx 1060 is a waste because you're severely CPU limited. On the other hand my gtx 670 (equivalent to a gtx 960 these days) was definitely giving me noticeably lower fps with the same CPU. But upgrading to a gtx 980 ti (equivalent to a gtx 1070) gave me 0 extra fps vs the 970 in AoC. But upgrading the RAM and CPU (Sandy Bridge to Haswell with similar clocks) made a huge difference as expected.

    For modern games I definitely wouldn't recommend anything less than a gtx 1070 or equivalent for 1440p (and a high clocked Haswell or Skylake/Broadwell CPU).

    G-sync is also a big deal in AoC since the framerate is always going to be all over the place and it makes the game feel consistently smooth (well as smooth as AoC can be, better not compare it with other games ).

    Off topic: I tried 16:9, 16:10, and 5:4 with the game; and the worst was 16:9. If you go for a monitor, choose the one that does not cut the upper and lower parts like crazy. 1920x1200 should be the minimum, I guess. 2560×1600 would be ideal.
    • Remove daily rewards and the raid finder;
    • remove membership bonuses;
    • disable PVE XP for daily challenges;
    • remove WBs forever on Crom;
    • slow down the AA gain;
    • lower the PVP XP gain or remove the streak system;
    • remove AoE looting;
    • add the missing mobs back to Khesh., F. of the Dead, and Eigl. Mount.;
    • fix the 250+ms ping;
    • take the key away from Saddur;
    • revert T3, T3.5 (10.21.15), T4 (10.21.15), and GGG changes;
    • remove energy and add skills (like taunt) back.

    Well you won't find any good gaming monitors in 2560x1600. It's a resolution designed for image editing and monitors are more than twice the price of those I mentioned earlier.

    1920x1200 then should be a good compromise, and it does not feel as if you are looking at the world through the slit of a mediaeval helmet (it feels so at 16:9 and narrower).
