Thread: please balance run speed..

  1. #1

    Default please balance run speed..

I mean how can it be that a soldier in heavy or full plate armor runs as fast and even longer as a clothie ?

about rangers : ranger with maxed out "nimble" run like usain bolt even though wearing medium armor..

in my opinion every gear part should have a speed multiplyer ( at least helmet , chestguard, legguards and shoes maybe).
Starting with x1.0 if being naked
0.95 for cloth and 0.9 for light gear for example. If you wear 1 part of each the calc should be like 1x0.95 + 1x0.9 = 1.85 -> 1.85:2 = 0.925 which is your run speed then
I think a system like this wouldnt be hard to make and balance classes a bit .

It sounds logical, but think of it the other way around. A melee (be it tank in this case) needs to run to a target, a necro can just stand in the middle nuke his ass off. If a tank couldn't run that long and fast, a fight with movement would be a hell..

It is because you still have linear regen and percental drain of energy. Combine this with different energy pool size, different basic and featable regens and pool increases, the low or zero cost of hopping (right after revamp this was better than it is now), the still existing link of energy and stamina through dash and you can only laugh at the claim of "normalized" movement.

And no, the common sense argument would mean, that necro can run faster (due to practice), but the tank could run longer (due to training and endurance).

And of course it is not balanced, because it lacks a mathematical background or system and was designed as it is, with pleasing as much TL lobby people as possible (which is one way, but without a solid background system it will keep inbalancies).

Yes , but it would also mean that players do have to stick with their group and force different classes to work together if they dont want to get farmed.
Soldiers for example would be stopped from useless k/d whoring and clothie hunting .

This is a poor argument and you know it.

Yes, TL is the domain of hardcore players who are not representative of the general population, even in AoC.

Yes, it would be preferable if FC had a solid background system for balancing.

But we all know they don't. The next best thing they can do is listen to people who knows the ins and outs of the game. This is what they have started to do recently, when CG finally reached out to the community. Compared to many fail revamps before, the changes resulting from this process really are a change for the better.

At the very least, you can't blame the failings of the energy system (a good idea, but poorly executed) on TL feedback. That was rolled out after FC had stopped testing things properly, but before they started to listen to player feedback

You have a point, because without the TL feedback it would be far worse.
What i call lobbying might be simply the effect, that most testers or players there have a limited view (this is not meant insultive) of the game still, because they lack the resources and pov of devs. In addition to not being paid, having not the tools and mostly not the time to do proper testing.

Also player testers tend to stop their suggestions and testing, when the issues important to them are solved. This is where a solid game system theory should come in. Just ask yourself if the issue they wanted to fix with the energy revamp has really been fixed.

Of course not, otherwise this thread would not exist.

But I remember the only substantive feedback which FC devs gave in connection with the sprint revamp was that the stamina cost of combos (as initially planned) was too high. They never really explained what results they intended to arrive at with the energy system as such.

The result is a system where a ranged class with decent survivability (ranger) can not only run faster, but also sprint longer and more frequently than a melee class with low survivability (HoX). Only because one is a "rogue" and the other a "mage". Enough said.

My male Barbarian Cimmerian's run speed is a little quick.
