Thread: Necronomicon

  1. #1

    Default Necronomicon

    a compilation of necromancer knowledge

    buffs

you have 3 interchangeable buffs wich you can have only one active at a time

    set's cold hatred
grants you adds 465 armor and 55 crit rating. and a very small damage multiplier buff on your pets, the amount of pet points your pet ocupies is the stack of damage multiplier it gets, so a 1 point melee pet will only get 1 stack and a blood arcanist will get 4 stacks, while general of the dead 8 stack, this procs on your pets by dealing critical hits with your spell
    http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/2...coldhatred.png
    (its the blue buff)

    set's ruin
it grants 135 elemental protection(fire/cold/electric) and 125 spell penetration
and upon consuming pestilential blast with chill it grants sets pestilence, 10% base spell damage for 10 secs

    blasphemy
currently this buff grants 135 holy/unholy protection+110 hit rating
and makes flesh to worms double tick ocasionaly

unless your using mage pets cold hatred isnt worth using for pve, best ones are blasphemy for extra dps on ftw or set's ruin for extra base spell damage, so be sure to have one of those up always

    scythe shield
    (lvl80 is rank3)
self damage reflection shield for 10.4%

    runed flesh
    (lvl80 is rank5)
group buff reducing received damage, this one is specialy important for tanks in your group

    flesh of wight
its a feat wich expands the self buffs from runed fleash increasing damage reduction and adds a dot wich explodes in a higher damage ping on anyone atacking you its good for questing and pvp

    frozen hatred
when active any fatalities you or someone in your group does spawns a frozen hatred pet wich deal nice damage and snares his victms

    despoil the soul
    its a feat.
each stack removes a pet point granting you 100magic damage at lvl80, at low lvl's the magic damage increase per stack is lower.
so at lvl80 8 stacks grants you 800magic damage and no minion points, most refere to this buff simply as dts; dont combine dts with pets detail why further down
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    spellweaving
(obtained at lvl50 as an ability)
the longer you sw the more base spell damage you will get as well as all your spell will deal more splash damage your spells will do
graphicaly it will show it halt at stack 6 but the base spell dmage will keep increasing for a lot more then 6 stacks, not sure how much bsd you can reach but there is a cap amount of bsd you can obtain by sw.

you can choose 5 self buffs
    Arcane Renewal
    http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/3...nerenewal1.jpg
    renews your energy
    Arcane surge
    http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4672/arcanesrg.jpg
your spells will inflict maximum damage
    Parasite host
    http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4128/parhost.jpg
some of your spells will grant you an adicional skull while buff lasts and each that spawns does you some self damage
    deathgod
    http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/6784/deathgod.jpg
makes your spells crit for a lot more mana cost
    death's channel
    http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/8...thschannel.jpg
gives you base spell damage for each pet you have

you will also receive negative debuffs
    ether drain
drains your mana can drain you completly
    frailty
    reduces your mitigation
    infestation
realy nasty physical dot hurts at stack 3

    spells
spells wich are working decently and you should use

    rule:
Max Spell DMG calculation: ( Your Magic DMG * Coef ) + Max Spell DMG = Maximum obtainable non-crit dmg with that spell

    gangrenous stench
    coef=0.116
its a small aoe centered on you applying physical debuff and unholy damage dot on people who get afected

    mark of the devourer
    coef=0.06
1 point is enough for pve, 5 points only increases self heal amounts, it stacks to 10 a buff on you increasing its damage so keep refreshing this dor for increased damage

    flesh the worms
    (rank 5 at lvl80)
    coef= 0.0915
the infamous 40 secs unholy dot
bear in mind if you spec infestation(coef =0.0433), your ftw can spead to adjacent targets with a new dot with same icon called infestion wich lasts 30 secs and has half the damage.

    pestilencial blast
    (rank6 at lvl80 and rank7 available)
    coef=0.101
memorize its symbol so you can optimize your rotation to detonate it after it has lingered at least 15 secs, usualy i dont count it i just do like 3-4 icestrikes and chill to detonate.
also this procs increased damage on your pets if you have unholy inspiration feated.

    icestrike
    (rank 6 at lvl80)
    coef=0.3255
note:chilling breath perk increases this coeficient so its suposedly +65% of 0,3255

when in doubt spam icestrike you cant go wrong with it, keep an eye out for withered soul buff(essential feat in nightfall), you also get surrounded by skulls opening their jaws animation around you it means your next i.s. is instant cast

    chill
    (rank5 at lvl80 and rank 6 available)
    coef= 0.0795
    coef on detonating pb= 0.504
it can be used to detonate pestilencial blast, the feat bursting bomb will increase this detonation efect.

    blasphemous ruin
    (rank5 at lvl80)
    coef=0.296
use it whenever its off cooldown, its an unholy fast cast aoe all around you.
also this procs increased damage on your pets if you have unholy inspiration feated.

those are the main spells to use in any given situation, you should try and bind them in easy to use positions because you will use them very often and you will perform better if you bind them instead of clicking with mouse on its icon

    life strike
    (rank 5 at lvl80)
    coef= 0.029
its your personal big heal spell, it debuffs spiritual torment does a miniscule unholy damage hit, can proc decays of nature dot if you use that perk, is afected by sw buffs by large amounts so with death god sw buff you can get extra nice self big heal on self.

    draw forth the heart
    (rank 3 at lvl80)
allows you to one shot 1 minion wich grants you 3%bsd buff for an hour

    ghoulish feast
very good self+team mana/health/stamina tap buff, requires a shackeled heart or the feat master of dead to be able to use.

    special features & cc's

.while in sw choose parasite host buff and cast ftw+blasphemous ruin+pestilencial blast+icestrike(if lucky will be double due to instant icestrike)
that will grant you 1 skull per each cast, i find that order to be optimal one to gain most skulls while buff is active, you can practice on strawman to get as many skulls as possible its the way to further increase single target dps given these skulls will linger after you spawn then(the feat ancient soul helps keep them alive longer)

.using frenzy+general of the dead with at least 1 melee minion up will turn your minion in a tank for around 20 secs, this only works on normal and epic bosses and all mobs, it wont work on raid bosses, none the less general of the dead does nice damage while hes active.

    tome of epithur
while this 20 second buff is active each of your icestrikes will also stun and each tick of deathly blizzard will be an aoe stun(only use for deathly blizzard at moment is just that)

    frost blast
    (rank 5 at lvl80)
its a root, it will only work decently if you max feat flash freeze and frost reach

    freeze
    (rank 2 at lvl80)
its a stun requires flash freeze to be faster cast

    ice shackle
    60%hinder movement single target

    unimaginable terror
self centered aoe fear, you can use it in aoe fights for extra damage on mobs the finisher deals unholy damage in noticeable amounts

    death's terror
aoe centered on necromancer aoe fear, works very badly and kills a pet; required you have 1 point pet up or it wont work with other non pet point pets like pasitic souls or frozen hatred.

    undead servants

tests with a naked featless and no aa's character just equiping erlic t3.5 gear on and off, later mage pet testing on full aa full t4 char.

when your naked and featless at lvl80
    http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5214/f7mr.png

so to sum it up melee pets wich give you best dps are corruptor+mutilators
to increase corruptors unholy proc you must feat grim corruptor or the extra unholy damage will not proc often enough to make a difference.
blighted ones hit very often so they will proc bone horde+elemental torment very nicely with just 2 of them, mutilations dot can crit higher then the actual pets damage and its afected by your crit rating.

take note that they all do very similar range of white damage wich will be afected by your crit rating and crit damage rating, as well as team buffs.

what sets them apart from eachother is the extra efects each one places.
the harvesters and lifestealers only make noticeable diference in healing and mana/stamina/energy returns if you stack 2 necros in same group
mutilators dot mutilations wont stack from diferent sources so even if a raid has 24 necros only 1 mutilations dot will be on target, hence its more helpfull for only 1 necro per raid to use them, from my testing feating grim corruptor is enough to make corruptors a viable alternative dps wise to mutilators and will even out dps mutilators mutilations on bosses/mobs with no magic protection.

reguarding slaughter wraith, one with death, walk with death, curse of pain

11 mutilators vs 5 mutilators+slaughter wraith and proof that your gear afects pets both in crit rating, magic damage, and crit damage rating

    http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/7245/hhf6.png

as you can clearly see mutilators win over slaughter wraith despite his cool damage he is so slow that a turtle could be away of his range before he hits :/
and its clear as well that necromancer armor stats afect pets as well

    a few details about that

    Code:
    with 210 magic damage
Your Blood Arcanist's Curse of Blood hits Straw Man for 291 unholy damag
    with 1126 magic damage
Your Blood Arcanist's Curse of Blood hits Straw Man for 460 unholy damage.
so if you want to bother you can even calculate coef of it.

notice that with 8 mutilators on naked char dps was 247.65 with 11 mutilators 425.22 so yes one with death will substancialy increase your dps but each extra point removes 50% of your mitigation to everything and it stacks with frailty debuff from sw as well, so in most raid encounters and instances ingame you simply cant afford to use it its absolute suicidal to have -150% mitigation to everything

    about walk with death
    Code:
Your Slaughter Wraith hits Straw Man for 433 crushing damage.
Your Slaughter Wraith hits Straw Man for 610 crushing damage.
Your Slaughter Wraith critically crushes Straw Man for 845.
    with walk with death
Your Slaughter Wraith hits Straw Man for 526 crushing damage.
Your Slaughter Wraith critically crushes Straw Man for 692.
Your Slaughter Wraith critically crushes Straw Man for 976.
Your Slaughter Wraith hits Straw Man for 742 crushing damage.
its 5 wasted points 20% more damage even on pet that hits hardest isnt realy relevant compared to the penalty of minus 20 magic multiplier on yourself.

curse of pain shows no proof of criting its values always fluctuate bettewen 14-56, shows no scaling with magic damage or anything, its purely a miserable dot, and its not worth 5 points.

    reguarding mage pets

from first picture you see clearly that arcanists out dps rest, some people want to believe reapers do more damage if you feat devourer feat in nightfall
    http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/3143/v1kw.png
as you clearly see those 3 points realy do increase the damage of reapers and blood arcanists, but arcanists hit more often and its enough to out dps them although with devourer feated both reapers or arcanists balance out to do almost identical dps, but keep in mind that this also shows that reapers with that feat will prove very eficient in pvp, but with lower burst heals compared to blood arcanists, but they wont suicide either like blood arcanists to heal you :P.

something very important you must know
    http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5541/k7i9.png
each stack you use of despoil the soul will reduce damage pets do, no idea if its intended or not, but they dont mix :P, so either go 7 stack +1 pet for fear or 8 stack, or dont bother trying to mix dts with pets your gimping yourself.

keep in mind that main diference bettewen blood arcanists and reapers is the later are single target and the first deal frontal cone aoe check previus image dps where you see ba dealing damage on 2 target at same time while arcanists and reapers only do single target, also
    http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/8061/cnft.png
devourer makes a diference on their dps; and that is blood arcanists main advantage you can further increase theyr damage while archmagnus you cant.

something i did find during testing is that its wrongly counted in parsers the damage blood arcanists do to them selfs to heal you it will be encripted as dps you did:
    Code:
Your Blood Arcanist's Blood Arcanist hits Your Blood Arcanist for 985 damage.
Your Blood Arcanist's Blood Arcanist heals you for 115.
so dont get deceived by it

another thing is i found absolutly no proof that cabal increases damage if your being hit by magic damage, so those 5 points are an absolute waste in the way of getting general and empower archmagnus feats wich are good.

    so long story short;
your crit rating+crit damage+magic damage will increase damage of pets.
arcanists are best dps mage pets unless its an aoe based encounter where blood arcanists will do better.

reapers are best mage pets for pvp, alternatively blood arcanists will give you higher burst heals comparable to a blue heal but they will comit suicide to heal you so you need to use general of the dead to keep them alive.

last but not least keep in mind your base spell damage wont afect the pets.
    Code:
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave hits Straw Man for 111 frost damage.
WITH 5%BSD arcanist buff at 10
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave hits Straw Man for 116 frost damage.
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave crits Straw Man for 221 frost damage.
    WITH 5%arcanist buff+TOME+ROFTL+SH=86%BSD
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave hits Straw Man for 116 frost damage.
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave hits Straw Man for 116 frost damage.
Your Arcanist's Chill of the Grave crits Straw Man for 232 frost damage.
but arcanists arcanist 5%bsd buff will afect them as well as other classes team buffs

wich points to last thing you need to know about necromancer minions.

while using pets other peoples buffs will be turning point in your dps so dont expect extreme dps if you arent grouped with good team mates using good feats and team buffs, they will play majort role in increasing your minions dps and will grant you the extra push to out dps all other classes.
most important ones are demo, tos, conq. others will increase your performance as well but those 3 classes are "the essential trio" that will increase your dps & performance the most in raids.

    the black list
list of feats/spells wich arent worth feating or using

.leech life-no coeficient always does 63 damage and crap heal

.parasitic soul swarm-coef 0.223, not worth casting

.gelid bones-coef 0.166 not worth casting

.deathly blizzard-coef 0.308 unless you want to do aoe stun with tome of epithur not worth casting

.netherworld deception-irrelevant unless you raid with more then 3 necros on a regular basis

.soul frost-coef 0.0735 not worth casting and drains more mana then it promises to return

.decay-not worth casting and doesnt work properly in any situation, and heal it grants are irrelevant

.unholy hands-any white hit will break root so its very hard to be in a situation this root works

    .life leechs-very bad retunrs

    .gloutunous reaper-very bad returns

.night of the harvest-so bad you will hardly notice diference

.curse of pain-miniscule proc dot for all melles atacking, irrelevant at best

.walk with death-extremely bad feat given 20%increase on pets is no were near 20% magic

.slaughter wraith-looks cool but its extremely slow not relevant and gimps your dps to use it

.sacrifice-good idea but poor on delivery, simply doesnt work in the sense killing your pet for more base spell damage will never properly give you a noticeable increase of power given extremely low necromancer spell coeficients

.death eater very bad feat grants you health for killing a pet then when buff runs out removes the same amount of health

.soul absorption-poor on delivery not worth it, and extra minus for being pet feat in nightfall

.bones of frost-not worth it because gelid bones in present form is irrelevant, by extention touch of winter is avoidable too

.grip of death-was so extremely nerfed its damage is pathetic spaming icetrikes does triple the damage

.shatter-good idea but poor to use and irrelevant in almost all raids and instances.

.plagued heart curse+wretched heart curse-most broken spell in game totaly irrelevant with tragic returns

basicaly its only relevant for pvp increases self heal component tick, you can dot individualy any amount of players to leech eficiently stable self heal, in pve its irrelevant 1 point is enough.

Noite any thoughts on using Pressing + Field of war instead of the traditional Desicive + Pressing?

Was thinking because Desicive is maybe a percent or two of crit rating while pressing is like almost 10% of crit damage rating. The extra dps and crit damage may make the time SW'ing a bit better than it already is

Is there a suggested spec for those times that you do not want to do ranged DPS in an instance and would rather have pets up on the boss? A more melee pet build?

I'm relatively new as a pet necro, have always just run a pure caster spec.

if you want to do t3, i'd go with this: link...
if not, you can move the points in ruined blight and void to something else, eg like this: link...
"in the depths of a mind insane fantasy and reality are the same"

Yawgmoth (Ranger) - Nyxathid (Necro) - Yixlid (HoX) - Kaltas (DT) - Heung (BS) - Teysa (HoX) - Gatzu (Guard) - Krovax (Ranger) - Hurkyl (Barb) - Vedalken (PoM)

Okay and for that T3 build what is the rotation?
A bocor creates a zombie by walking to his victim's house backward. He sucks out the person's soul through an opening in the door, then quickly blows it in a bottle which is then sealed. Without a soul, the victim wastes away and dies and after burial, the bocur digs up the body and casts a spell over it.

well, i don't have a fixed rotation... just keep the dots up, use blasphemous ruin when off cd (to buff the pets), and spam ice strike when you have nothing else to do...

one thing that can help on louhi is to go into spellweave just to get the parasite host buff, to have more pets when you use void...
also, i'd save the general of the dead for the 4th philactery...

void spell is similar to frenzy spell will exclusively afect 1 pet and especialy on last phase of that particular fight the feat is useless given blighted ones hit so often they also die extra often due to debuff.
