Thread: Critigation

  1. #1

    Default Critigation

How important is critigation amount and chance to tanking t3.5 and t4?

Does someone have some numbers and calculations that show how much damage it reduces or what effect it has?

    Critigation chance maxes at 80%?

What is the most Critigation amount you can get from say full LL khitai gear?

    Thanks

They use the good old 36.6=1% (that works for everything else) on paper. But it's anyone's guess how much they actually work: the only thing that could possibly be critigation on combat log is "you mitigated x damage from y" line (critigation/critigate term doesn't ever appear on combat logs) and that mitigated damage is pretty weird.

You can see critigation totals of various armors at AoC armory's builder.

Critigation is somewhat voodoo. It mitigates the critical hit part of the damage ONLY. So if a mob hits for 3000, but the critical part of the hit is 1000, and your crigation chance is 80 (you can get 90 on a guard, but 80 on conq or DT), then you have a 80 (or 90)% change to mitigation the critical amount (in this case 1000) by your critigation amount.

So if you have 50% critigation amount, and if you won the critigation roll, you mitigate 500. So the mob damage is now 2500 vs 3000.

In that case its meh. However if the mob hits you for 6000 and the critical part is 3000, then 50% is 1500. So thats 6000 vs 4500. So thats basically one more hit you can take.

In T4, the main tanks needs a full set of critigation gear for IMP and for Emperor fight. I think the projections on Entity crit, but its not really an issue until they have 4 or 5 stacks.

As far as T3.5 only did the first 2 bosses and dont recall the critgation needed.

After a bit of testing, it's clear there's some sort of maths involved with "mitigated x damage" on log. I went inside Enigmata alone with a guard and killed a bunch of parasites at 10,6% and 34,3% critigation values. mitigated x damage always happens on crits and the numbers are very stable.

10,4% critigation results in You mitigated X damage from Whatever Parasite's attack. Whatever Parasite critically crushes you for Y. lines. The X/Y value is always consistent (namely about 24): 20/473, 15/360, 10/237 and 5/123 (with tiny variations I didn't bother to meticulously document). The large variations are definitely because of CD and S&G. Probably if I'd thought to not use those, there'd be next to no variance in numbers.

    34,3% critigation also gives pretty consistent X/Y values (about 6,5) but there's a lot more variation in X and Y values: 66/437, 63/418, 63/408, 51/336, 33/219, 17/114. Again CD and S&G effects are visible.

What meaning all these numbers hide I have no patience to squeeze out. Someone who likes math much more than me could do it though (preferably with more carefully taken data). Raid mobs will deal a lot more damage and cause greater variance, but I'm almost sure underlying math will be the same there.

As Tman pointed out, you only really need critigation gear for the Imp and the Emperor's golems. If you don't have it you'll take a severe beating, although it's still possible to tank, just harder.

Emperor himself, the projection on Entity and Lu Zhi deal magical magical and crit as well, but you can tank them in T3 protection sets and still be comfortable.

No need for critigation for T3.5.

That being said, use khitan gear anyway for all physical fights, just because it adds a ton of hit rating on top of that critigation, and hit rating you'll need badly in T3.5/4.

I had a lengthy post here but then the numbers didn't add up; hopefully I can contribute something more meaningful with testing later.

You can mitigate only the crit part of the hit.

Lets say Golems normal hit is 3000,

if he deals 60% more by criting, the crit part is 0.6*3000=1800.
Total hit without critigation is 3000+1800=4800

If you have 57% critigation amount (khitai tank set), and you got the chance to mitigate the hit,
you mitigate 57% of 1800 which is 1026,
so you only take 1800-1026=774 dmg from crit.
Total hit with critigation is 3000+774=3774.

I've done some testing on a simple worm in paikang to prove this mechanism. Will post result soon enough.

About LL plate set, you get 2099 critigation amount from it, according to http://aoc.is-better-than.tv/.

If i remember correctty it's around 56-57%, but i can't check it since i don't have the set anymore. Anyone can add actual percentages ?

Yeah, you are right Mellaus, i changed the numbers.

    And here is the test:

    I have 53,7% critigation amount.

In a fight with a paikang worm, I received:
    • 71 normal hits for 289 or 291
    • 13 crit for 468 or 471
    • 18 mitigated crits
hit received 372, mitigated 96 (sum 468) or
      hit received 374, mitigated 97 (sum 471)

Lets calculate only with the lower numbers, result is the same with higher numbers.

    Normal worm hit: 289
    Crit worm hit: 468

Crit part of the hit: 468-289=179
With 53,7% critigation amount i expect to mitigate 53.7% of the crit part 0.537*179=96.123 ~ 96 what exactly happened.
