Unusual Keybinding Issue

Has anyone ever encountered this keybinding problem.
In the keybinding option, when I select a key field and then prompted to press the key that I desire to change to, the same message always appears, "Key "ctrl" is already used for 'show shields'. Would you like to clear the old mapping". Apparently, no matter which keyboard key I select to replace the current key, it thinks I am always asking to replace the keybind with the crtl key, which I have never selected has the replacement. Any ideas on what might be the problem and possible solution. Thanks.

It should only be there if one of your Ctrl is pressed. Maybe unplug/replug the keyboard?

In no particular order:

- Uninstall softwares that map hotkeys like AutoHotkey or Logitech Gaming Software and the likes of it. Check if problem persists.
- Check you have the correct language set for your input device according to the layout of the buttons. I've known of some issues where en-US was selected on a non en-US keyboard. For example like they don't have the altgr button in USA, they use left ctrl+alt for that same purpose.
- Replace keyboard??

• Press the Windows key.
• Type "Accessibility".
• Press "Enter".
• Click "Make the keyboard easier to use".
• Uncheck everything.
• Click "OK".
• Check if you are female. Some women have breasts pressing random keys while leaning close to the screen.
• Have a short discourse with your dog (the cat trick did not work last time: the person was not a cat lover).
• Press and hold the Windows key and press "Pause / Break".
• Release the keys.
• Click "Device Manager".
• Expand "Keyboards".
• Right-click the shown keyboard.
• Select "Uninstall".
• Reboot your mighty computer.
• Lastly, before you replace your computer and leave the old keyboard (just for fun!), press the Windows key.
• Type "Change keyboards".
• Press "Enter".
• Click "Change keyboards".
• Remove all installed keyboards and add "English (United States)".
• Reboot your Spectrum 128K +3.
